Spy

Spy

The Spy is a trained follower with the ability to sabotage your enemy. The spy can convert his clothing into the colors of any tribe in the game, ally or enemy, however the conversion takes about 6 seconds to change, and once he is detected by an enemy he immediatly reverts to his native color clothing.

Enemy spies appear identical to braves apart from the fact that they\’re walking around your base setting fires to your buildings. This makes it very easy for an enemy spy to just walk through your defenses as all your followers will think he is just a buddy of theirs. There are several ways to unmask a spy though. Perhaps the easiest is to just right click on an enemy spy though this requires you to manually unmask each spy. An easy way to automatically do the same thing is to stick a spy in a tower as he will then point out any spies in the area. Also, if any of your followers observe a spy sabotaging a building, they will unmask and attack him.

The spy’s primary abilities are sabotage and spying. Sabotage works by clicking on any building (other than your own) and the spy will walk up to the structure and discretely set fire to it. For huts this is conveniently in the back of the structure but for everything else it will be at the entrance - so no burning down a training hut with a line of braves at it. Using spies to sabotage towers is very useful - especially when the enemy shaman is sitting in one camping as the occupant of the tower will find they are on fire and start running frantically away! Spies can also set fires to trees and piles of wood which can be extremely useful for depriving your enemy of wood.

As for spying, spies obviously excel in this. During a game with fog of war, most followers will just be killed as soon as they run into the enemy defense so sending in a spy to check out all the tower locations is extremely useful. Spies can also spy from towers where they have the largest range of any follower, great for giving you a few more seconds of advanced notice before an invasion. Another plus for keeping spies in towers is they cloak everything in the range of the tower from world view so no follower will be visible and all the structures look the same as their damaged equivilants. Of course people can always just look in normal view at your base, but that is a lot more effort so it\’s easier to hide things.
